Raipur, Rajasthan

Raipur is a small village in Rajasthan, set along the banks of the Luni River and known locally for its much‑loved Ganesha temple. Away from the main tourist circuit, it offers a calm slice of countryside life where farming, small shrines and slow village routines still shape the day.

Fields, low rocky outcrops and the gentle flow of the river give Raipur a soft, open landscape that feels very different from Rajasthan’s big cities. Travellers who stop here usually come for quiet walks through the lanes, temple visits and unhurried time watching everyday village life rather than for a long sightseeing list.

Raipur works well as an offbeat pause between better‑known destinations in the Marwar and Mewar region. It adds a genuine rural note to itineraries that otherwise focus on forts and palaces, and pairs especially well with a stay at Lakshman Sagar, just outside the village.

Lakshman Sagar Heritage Resort, Raipur

Lakshman Sagar heritage resort near Raipur, Rajasthan.

Lakshman Sagar began life in the 19th century as a hunting lodge for the Thakur of Raipur, built beside a man‑made lake created to attract wildlife and store water. Today it has been reimagined as a peaceful heritage retreat, with the original zanana and mardana quarters turned into relaxed dining and lounge spaces that still hint at old Rajput customs.

Just 12 standalone cottages are scattered across the rocky slopes above the lake, each built from local stone and mud with bright, playful interiors and its own private plunge pool. The design uses everyday village objects in creative ways, while large windows and sit‑outs keep the focus firmly on views of the water, hills and open sky.

Days at Lakshman Sagar tend to follow a gentle rhythm: slow breakfasts, walks or drives through nearby villages, simple farm‑to‑table meals and long, quiet evenings under a very clear sky. Yoga sessions, pottery, spice‑mixing and other small experiences are on offer, but the real luxury here is time and space, with plenty of privacy built into both cottages and common areas.

Raipur and Lakshman Sagar sit roughly two hours by road from Ajmer and a similar distance from Jodhpur, just off the highway that links them via Pali. Haripur is the closest small railway station, while most visitors arrive via Jodhpur airport and continue by pre‑arranged car.
